Two books about books
Two of my favourite books about books – not about specific titles, and the words or pictures they contain, but about the book as an object, its history and the making of all its elements. As a bookbinder
The Book, by Keith Houston
This is a concise yet remarkably wide-ranging history of books. It is beautifully written and, importantly considering its subject matter, also beautifully produced.
It is both an engaging read and a very useful reference source.
Books: Art, Craft & Community, by the London Centre for Book Arts
This book is made up of portraits of an inspiring selection of contemporary practitioners – bookbinders but also paper makers, marblers, printers and more.
